BIOGRAPHY
Professor Giovanni Schiuma is Professor in Innovation and Knowledge Management and Scientific Director of the Centre for Value Management at Università degli Studi della Basilicata, Italy, and Visiting at Cambridge Service Alliance, Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge. He is also Visiting Research Fellow at Cranfield School of Management and Adjunct Professor at Tampere University of Technology, Finland. He received his Ph.D. in business management from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. Professor Schiuma’s major research interests and consulting expertise relate to performance management and strategic knowledge assets management. His research, training and consulting focus is on the strategic management of intangible and knowledge assets to improve business performance and enhance organizational value creation capacity. He has authored or co-authored more than 130 publications, including books, articles, research reports and white papers on a range of research topics particularly embracing Knowledge Asset and Intellectual Capital Management, Performance Measurement and Management, Knowledge-based dynamics, Artful Management for Organisational development. He served as Co-Editor in Chief of the international journal Measuring Business Excellence (Emeral publisher). He consults to private corporations and government organizations on projects in Europe and the Middle East. He has taught executive seminars at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong, at St. Martin College - Innovation Centre, University of the Arts London in England, at Tampere University of Technology in Finland, at Aalborg University in Denmark, and at University of San Marino in San Marino. His primary research and consult interests focus around the following areas: knowledge assets and intellectual capital management, strategic performance management systems, innovation and change management, organizational behavior and learning and knowledge-based local development. In the last years Professor Schiuma has pioneered the development of a new management research stream focused on the value of Arts in Management, addressing how the deployment and exploitation of the arts can solve managerial issues and transform business models. His book “The Value of Arts for Management” will be published in hardback in June 2011 by Cambridge University Press and represents a path-breaking manuscript to develop the postmodern management, investigating how the arts can shape the successful organization of the 21st century business landscape. Giovanni is recognized as a passionate and influential thinker on knowledge assets and intellectual capital management, and he is committed to develop theoretical and practical frameworks, approaches and tools to drive both public and private organizations towards the improvement of their value creation dynamics by understanding, exploiting, measuring and managing knowledge and intangible assets. Among others, his current research interest is focused on organisational behaviour and particularly on how complex organisations can be transformed into intelligent organisations by leading and managing energy and emotions. He works with local Italian Governments on the assessment of intellectual capital dimensions underpinning local development as well as he is actively engaged in applied research and has worked in research projects involving national and international organizations, such as, among others, Natuzzi, Ducati, Soges Group, Arts&Business, Accenture, Shell, Lloyds TSB, McDonald's, etc. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, bicycling and travelling. He lives in Matera, Basilicata in the South Italy, where he gets sun, food and the passionate familiar atmosphere which nurture his knowledge, energy and creativity. |
